Photo Shoot and Popjustice on Tuesday for new song

My dog is snoring. My love is snoring. I'm wide awake writing a blog.
It's the dawn of the day after the album photo shoot and I'm just getting into bed.
That was an exhausting day. No doubt about it.
In the midst of floating in a tank of water in a 3 piece suit (more on that later) I was Negotiating a video contract, briefing the director of our press video and sorting out the dates of the U.K tour.

All of this and striking a pose and finding beauty, er, where I found it. (?)

I'm delirious.

The point is it went something like this..
Neon. Smoke. Origami. Victoriana. Neon. Water. Dive.

When you see the final photo shoot you'll understand.

I will say that there have been reoccurring visual themes in the music that pretty much dictated what the photographs should look like. This has been the first time I've ever had such a strong idea of what my music looked like. What color, what mood, what temperature. What taste. Working with Paul Louis (my art director and style guru) has been like finding the other half of my visual brain. He and I share a love of similar motifs from the 80's especially neon. This obsession alone was a marriage made in heaven when he first laid eyes upon the Fairlight synth that this album was crafted around. The Fairlight with her neon green display screen formed the basis of what we called Vicotorian Sci Fi. For me, on the album, I explored the idea of Time Travel for a very simple reason : When I moved to London and especially into our 19th Century house I felt as though I'd lived here before.

The idea that all of the journeys I'd taken in a lifetime(s) had led me back here and to my soul mate intrigued me. It became an obsession of mine to perhaps wonder if I could travel back in time what things would I do differently? What would I fix? What would I ensure remained the same?

Relationships especially those between Father and Son became topics I explored in song behind the fantastical lens of all of my Jules Verne and H G Wells inspired imagery. The Origami bird with all of it's fold and creases to me represented a life lived. Every choice, every action (every fold) all part of the master plan.
And the end result, well, This Delicate Thing We've Made. A deeply personal album (everyone is saying my most personal to date) but at the same time the most fantastical in its use of imagery and especially metaphor.

There was a moment today when my friends were watching a particular shot and Kate Bushs' 'Hounds of Love' song came blasting through the speakers.

Click. Flash. Capture.

And I felt it. The hair on my arms stood on end and I knew that this was one of those moments when everything was aligned and I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing. I looked at the image on the monitor and it looked exactly how I had hoped it would. It looked like the music sounded.

Alright. I'm off to bed.
On Tuesday, www.popjustice.com wil debut two 30 samplers of tracks from the album. One of those tracks is the first single 'On The Verge of Something Wonderful'.

If you dig it, do let them know.

Right, really off to bed now.

Big love..
