Countdown to the Tour Vol 2
Current mood: magical
Category: magical Music

Spent the afternoon with Shave in his studio. I don't know if I'm supposed to admit it out loud but I heard the Antigone album today.. it's fucking amazing.

I hear the album drops early next year.

Right now on to my tour. So went to Shave's East London den.
Got to catch up on secret men's business. You know one of those great chats men friends have when they're raw and honest and talk about life and what it all means and how you're going. It's so great when you're close enough to drop the pleasantries and just tell it how it is. Life is gorgeous and terrible and wonderful and delicate and that's what makes it worthy of writing about and dissecting in abstract thought. I realized I hadn't had one of those chats in a while and then we instantly went into applying that kind of human heart to the show.

Willie has designed the show in a theatrical sense with definite movements. I'm not going to explain away the show, in the same way I haven't over explained the album... suffice to say there's a certain loose narrative and with this record and many albums of material it's given us the ability to construct quite a statement.

We worked out a killer arrangement of a song from The Tension and The Spark.
In fact, I came loaded with quite a few drastic changes I wanted to see applied to the older stuff to bring it into this universe.

My favourite part today was the intro and how we plan to make you pee your pants with excitement as the show beigins.

Very exciting stuff (not the peeing, though you know.. whatever floats your boat..)
but the whole concept of seeing the show start to plot out musically.

Tomorrow I have another costume fitting and more torture at the gym.

I don't think I've realized how quickly this week has gone!
Friday and then a weekend. Wahooo.

Sending you lots of love and magic and light and peace.

What inspires me
Current mood: inspired

I was listening to one of my favourite albums of alll time tonight and I realized I very rarely talk about it or mention it when I descirbe my decision to make a double album and specifically a concept one.

The album I hail as one of my favorites of all time is actually a Eurythmics album called 'Savage'. At the time, it was very misunderstood. I don't know if it did well in the charts but I know it was a shock for a lot of mainstream pop listeners who expected the band to churn out another 'Miracle of Love' or 'Missonary Man'. This was a deeply disturbing and pyschological journey of a woman. I dare not presume exactly what the exact stories described - but to me it seemed to speak for downtrodden women and particuarly the sort of disenfranchised female uber class who were delegated the role of sophisticated house wife but were in fact miserable.

With lines like 'I wear this unhappiness, like a chain around my neck' and 'I wish I was invisible so I could climb through the telephone.. don't cut me down when I'm talking to you...' The album seemed to be this beacon of hope, perhaps dimming in strength, but never the less emitting a pulse out of the heart of a woman beaten down by domesticity.

From the first insane beats of 'I love to listen to beethoven' to the heart wrenching 'You have placed a chill in my heart' this album is truly conceptual. The music videos were all linked and featured, essentially 3 characters. The mad houswife, the crazy alter ego uber tart and of course, Annie.

If you haven't listened to this album and you wanted to connect the dots from a piece of art that inspired the record I made, do check it out.

Annie has a new album coming soon.
Songs of mass destruction.
What a gorgeous title.

On that note, I'm off.

With love
